What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

Irritable bowel syndrome otherwise known as IBS is a disturbance of the abdomen motility and is associated with biochemical or structural changes, characterized by episodes of abdominal discomfort, pain, diarrhoea and constipation present for at least 12 weeks, consecutive or not.

Benefits of Colonic Irrigation on IBS

The benefits of colonic irrigation can often be quickly observed in the form of improved bowel function together with clearer skin, more mental clarity and fewer headaches.

Circulatory, immune, inflammatory and weight problems can also be improvde with colonic treatments when accompanied by recommended diet and lifestyle changes.

After treatment from our colonic therapists, the bowel is better able to absorb nutrients and less likely to absorb enterotoxins.

What Causes IBS

These are the main causes of irritable bowel disease, including:

  • Abnormal motility of the small intestine during fasting and excessive contractions after eating greasy foods or in response to stress.
  • Hypersensitivity of nerve receptors in the intestinal wall due to lack of oxygen, distension, infection and other psychological changes.
  • High levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin in the blood stream and intestine Infections due to inflammatory complications.
  • Depression and anxiety also cause IBS.

Irritable Bowel Disease Symptoms

IBS symptoms, which include abdominal discomfort, pain, cramps, alternating periods of diarrhoea and constipation, excessive flatulence and a sensation of incomplete emptying of the bowel may worsen after ingestion of caffeine, alcohol and fatty foods. These foods and liquids increase the body’s production of digestive gases or products containing sorbitol, such as gum and candy without sugar and can worsen Irritable bowel.

IBS Diagnosis

In many cases Irritable Bowel Syndrome diagnosis is based on visual symptoms but to ensure correct diagnosis a physical examination and direct visualization of the bowel by colonoscopy is performed. Proper diagnosis is critical to avoid more serious diseases that can be confused with irritable bowel syndrome.

Recommendations

There are many things you can do to reduce the severity of Irritable bowel syndrome, including changing your diet and increasing exercising patterns.

  • Adopt a diet low in fat and high in fibre, but watch out for vegetables that increase the production of gases such as cabbage, cauliflower, sweet potatoes and beans.
  • Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages containing caffeine.
  • Try not to chew gum or suck sugarless candy containing sorbitol.
  • Keep a daily program of physical exercise.
  • Avoid smoking.
  • And do not underestimate the benefit that psychotherapy and other therapeutic techniques, including relaxation that can help reduce IBS disease.

For diarrhoea due to IBS:

Drugs that increase the bolus and reduce the frequency of bowel movements often have good results. Refractory cases can be treated with antibiotics for a short time.
